The 2016 Portage Pinot Noir was made from fruit grown in our four Estate Prince Edward County vineyards, and each was block was harvested, processed and aged individually. The grapes were hand- picked and gently destemmed, before being fermented in small lots in the cellar. Following fermentation the wine flowed by gravity to French oak barriques, 25% of which were new. The wine remained in barriques for ten months, at which time the final blend was decided upon. Following settling and coarse filtration, the wine was bottled in August of 2017.
Strawberry, raspberry and red cherry aromas lead the way on the nose, with hints of sweet spice. Freshly crushed ripe berries continue on the palate. The mouth feel is agreeably lean and silky smooth, with very fine tannin and low acidity.
